I wake up every morning without you by my side,
I go to sleep wanting you every single night,
It's hard not dreaming of a life that can't ever be,
I sometimes can't help wondering if you feel the same as me,
Some days it hurts to be with you but I can't let you go,
At times I can't breathe easy and it's harder than you'll ever know,
The thought of living without you scares the shit out of me,
I sometimes can't help wondering if you feel the same as me,
I hate missing you always and not saying what's on my mind,
I hate not being able to touch you, I wish i could leave these thoughts behind,
I love you so much that when we're apart my heart don't beat the same,
I sometimes can't help hoping that somehow you feel the same.

The prompt for this poem was "instant blues" (I tried to imitate the blues with this one)

I used to have a woman
she had long blonde hair

Yes, long blonde hair
straight down to her waist

I found a strand
of straight black hair

Yes, it's a pity and a shame
it all came back to me

That strand of long blonde hair
brought those memories back

She was mine and mine only
when I had her lying up in my arms

Well, she split with me
over work

Yeah, it was only
over work

Now that woman, she held
my heart in her hands

Held it in her hands, but
when she was done with me

She cast it away, I got
no second chance

Now it's a pity and a shame
but what am I gonna do?

My poetry exchange group has been on hiatus for the last month but we're going to resume next week. Meantime, I wrote this one without a prompt:

How to Drown in Love

You cannot find safe harbor.
There is nothing to anchor yourself to
So you slip away into that thick night sky.
If it’s me you want you will swim forever.

How to feel love while drowning:
First, let the stars wash over.
Let them cover you like an oil spill -
you can’t wash me off.

But you will want to.
There is nothing to toss out;
No preserver, no secret, no truth.
It is just the moon, the sea, the tide.
Everything that we feared.
There is no safe harbor.

I’ve always been the hazard.
You… swim further and further out
to avoid me reaching you.
I’ll come racing in again
to take you back,
clouds rolling in
storm moving through.

Losing you.. .

Death waits for no one and takes at it's will
Losing you has changed the person I used to be
I now have to bury the cup that you used to fill
And try to live with the memories of you and me
Days are easy but nights haunt my dreams with you
I can't escape the sadness that drowns my heart
I hope you knew that you were always the glue
That held me together whenever I almost fell apart
This invisible cord that binds us will never sever or break
Our souls were meant to be and will find each other again
One day I'll meet you somewhere out in a silver starry lake
My sister, my soulmate, my confidant, my best friend.
